More Options & Better Performance: Tallie Expense Report Software 10.10 Release Notes

Fresh on the heels of our updated expense report app for iOS and Android, we’re happy to announce the release of Tallie expense report software v10.10. We focused on giving our account administrators a greater range of options for managing Tallie accounts and spent quite a bit of time improving overall Tallie performance. Additionally, we’ve released a brand new status page at status.tallie.com, which you can use to track Tallie uptime. If you’d like to be the first to know about our scheduled maintenance or performance issues, subscribe to updates on that page. Here are some more details on the release:

Drop-Down Menu Performance

When it’s time to code your expenses to classes, projects and other accounting list data, you want the process to be quick and painless. We’ve introduced a few solutions to help you along.

Tallie Expense Report Software Improved Drop Down Menu Performance

Visual Display of Relationships
Let’s say you have multiple layers of projects, departments or locations. We now help you sort through this data by displaying parent-child relationships with visual indentation in the lists.

Search by Parent Project
For our customers who use the Tallie projects list to manage multiple jobs for each of their clients, we’ve built the ability to search for sub-projects by the parent name.

Accounting Code Display
If your company uses codes to reference classes, locations, customers and any other list data, we’ll show those codes to you in the drop down menu as well.

Billable Feature Controller

We originally built Tallie with professional service providers in mind, giving them powerful tools to track expenses against customers and jobs, as well as the flexibility to bill expenses directly back to clients. As it turns out, many of our customers who love Tallie actually don’t have any need for these project billing features. With this release, we’re offering the ability to hide this functionality for all your users, right from the Features page in the Company Preferences area of Tallie Settings.

Tallie Expense Report Software Billable Feature Controller

Integrations Performance

Tallie’s best in class direct integrations with QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Intacct and Xero are constantly being tuned and improved. Plus, our recently released scheduled file data transfer integrations for other accounting and practice management systems are getting regular improvements as well. Here are a few of the enhancements we offer with this release:

Tallie Expense Report Software Syncs with Bill.com and QuickBooks Online

Certified Support for Bill.com’s Sync 2.0 for QuickBooks Online
Tallie is the only expense report software offering simultaneous integration with both Bill.com and an accounting system. Bill.com recently upgraded their support for QuickBooks Online, and this release guarantees simultaneous support for customers using the Sync 2.0 between Bill.com and QuickBooks Online. Plus, we’re now ensuring that Tallie always syncs with both QuickBooks Online and Bill.com, even if your Tallie environment is configured to export only to Bill.com.

Fewer Sync Errors
Tallie uses sync errors to communicate when issues need to be addressed in communicating with other systems, but sometimes the sync errors can be extra unnecessary information. We’ve suppressed some of these basic errors so you can enjoy Tallie without the extra chatter.

Improved Processing of Massive Files
We have a few customers who use our file data transfer integration to send tens of thousands of projects to Tallie from their practice management systems. We’ve updated how we work through those files to get better performance than before.

Feature Improvements

In addition, we made a couple of additional functional improvements to Tallie. They include:

  • More improvements were made to the duplicate detection algorithm to make it more accurate
  • We added two new currencies: Vietnamese Dong and Mozambican Meticals
  • We’ve begun a process to help resolve issues with duplicated transactions delivered to Tallie from credit card bank transaction feeds. This release should provide some improvement, with more to come.

Bug Fixes

There were also quite a few small issues resolved in this release. They include:

  • Custom payment memo is applied to item-mapped credit card transactions in Xero, QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop
  • When exporting paid bills to BIll.com, the invoice date now always matches the process date
  • Some customers reported issues in viewing HTML receipts after export to Bill.com. We’ve resolved that issue.
  • Our usage graph that we provide in the Billing area to track your usage to date showed a false spike half way through last month. We’ve resolved that issue as well.

We love to hear from you — even if it’s just to say hi. Let us know how these updates to our expense report software help your team. Reach out to our Product Expert team at support@usetallie.com or by calling 888-874-1118 Ext 2.

Time to upgrade! Tallie Expense Report App v3.3 Released for Android & iOS

Celebrate the season with updated Tallie apps just in time for the holidays! Our new expense report app for Android and iOS features enhanced stability in low connectivity environments, manual select-to-merge features and the option to share to Tallie from your camera library. Go ahead and upgrade your app*, you deserve it.

*Depending on your operating system there may be a delay in availability, so please be on the look out over the next week or so.

Select-to-Merge Expenses in the App

Let’s say you’ve got a receipt and a matching credit card charge that you would like to merge into one expense? Simply select both expenses by tapping on the circular icon on the left side of the screen, then tap to merge. In the iOS app, this option will appear on the bottom of your screen. In the Android app, it will either appear in the header or the overflow menu, depending on your screen width.

Select to merge functionality in the Tallie expense report app for iOS

Selecting more than one expense in the iOS app causes the expense functions to appear on the bottom of the screen. These include, select all, merge, move to report, and delete.

Select to merge in the Tallie expense report app for Android

In narrower Android screens, the merge function appears in the overflow menu.

Share Images to the Tallie Expense Report App

We’ve configured Tallie to work with the share functions of both iOS and Android camera libraries. On both iOS and Android it’s quick and easy to access the camera from the lock screen. Now, you can take receipt photos with your basic phone or tablet camera as you incur them, then batch import them into Tallie using the share functionality.

Share to Tallie from your iPhone or iPad…

Share receipts from the iOS camera to the Tallie Expense Report App

From your camera roll, select multiple images, tap the Tallie icon, then select the destination expense report.

Share to Tallie from your Android phone or tablet…

From your camera library, select your images, then tap the share icon. Select Tallie from the app list, then select the destination expense report.

Bug fixes!

Each time you update your apps you might notice notes from developers that tell you about bug fixes. What do we mean by that? Well, a bug is an issue with a piece of software that prevents the software from completing an intended function. We conduct extensive testing here at Tallie before we release updates to our expense report software and expense report apps, but thanks to some wonderful feedback from our customers, we’ve found a few ways that we can improve. Here’s a high level list of the bugs we fixed with this update:

  • Reliability and stability of the apps has been greatly improved when connectivity is low
  • Some customers experienced long delay in loading the app
  • Some customers experienced long delays in searching for results in project lists
  • Some customers who used long names for their project, department, location, class or customer lists were not able to see the full name

Happy holidays from Tallie!

We love your feedback, because it helps us improve the experience for everyone. Let us know how these updates to our expense report app experience help your workflow. Reach out to our Product Expert team at support@usetallie.com or by calling 888-874-1118 Ext 2.

Supercharged Duplicate Detection & Automated Data Transfer: Tallie Expense Report Software 10.9 Release Notes

It’s getting well into fall and we’re dreaming of changing leaves, hot chocolate by fireplaces and the upcoming holidays. In the spirit of sharing the warm fuzzies, we’ve just released some major new developments that will make accountants’ hearts sing. Take a look at some of the highlights from the newest version of Tallie’s expense report software and let us know what you think!

Expanded & Enhanced Duplicate Management Tools

After speaking with many of our clients, we discovered that there were a few key areas where we could provide meaningful enhancements to your experience with managing duplicate expenses.

Review All Duplicates at Once
Gone are the days where you must search the page for any orange Possible Duplicates flag. Clicking on one duplicate pair will bring up a lightbox that will allow you to review all duplicate pairs on the page sequentially, without having to leave that view.

Expense report software duplicate detection

Differentiate Between User-Rejected Pairs and User-Ignored Pairs
Approvers and finance teams have historically been notified of possible duplicate pairs, no matter whether the original submitter ignored the flag or dismissed the flag. In order to cut down on noise and provide an additional layer of meaningful visibility, approvers and admins will now see a gray “Not Duplicates” flag which indicates when the submitter rejected a possible duplicate pair. The traditional orange “Possible Duplicates” flag will remain in place whenever a submitter has chosen to ignore the flag and submit anyway.

Expense Report Software User Rejected Duplicates

Duplicate Resolution Rights Granted to Approvers and Administrators
In the past, approvers and finance teams could only review expenses flagged as duplicates, but could not resolve them. This created a process requiring an expense report rejection, a delay for the submitter to resolve the issue, then a restart of the approval process. In order to cut out unnecessary delays, approvers can now merge expenses they believe to be duplicates and administrators can merge or delete duplicates. Furthermore, if the duplicate flag was rejected by the original submitter (see section above), approvers and administrators can override that decision.

Expense Report Software Duplicate Decision Override

Now Offering Automated Data Transfer for ANY System

We’ve often gotten requests during implementation for custom integrations with on-premise solutions like Microsoft Dynamics GP, Oracle or practice management systems. We’re thrilled to announce that this release includes the capability to establish an automated data transfer process between Tallie and any non-integrated system via sFTP scripted file transfer.

Expense Report Software File Upload Templates

On the Tallie side, the setup couldn’t be easier. Any account can be configured to receive data via sFTP simply by flipping a switch. Once sFTP is activated, Tallie provides you with standardized data template files as well as a custom username/password combination for Tallie’s sFTP server. You can then implement a scripting process in your system to pull data out in a format compatible with the template files and deliver updates to Tallie on a regular basis.

If you are interested in configuring your system to for automated data transfer with Tallie, please reach out to our Product Experts at support@usetallie.com who can guide you through the process or connect you with a VAR who is experienced with scripting data retrieval from your system.

Additional Product Updates

Streamlined Expense Report Header
Many of you take advantage of our corporate credit card auto-bundling feature, which offers automated expense report creation per credit card per statement. We’ve updated the naming convention for those reports so they’re easier to organize and compare. Plus, we’ve added a “sticky” header for all expense reports, so the title and control functions are visible as you scroll.

Expense Report Software Credit Card Statement

Brand New TallieConnect for QuickBooks for Windows Customers
TallieConnect is our proprietary syncing engine that allows for instant data transfer between Tallie and QuickBooks for Windows. The newest version brings a lot of great features including: Hosted Environment mode, instant activity-based sync back to Tallie when a change is made in QuickBooks (provided TallieConnect is running), ability to auto-upgrade TallieConnect versions in the future, and much more. Please download and install the most recent version from your Settings home page as soon as possible.

Expense Report Software Updated QuickBooks Sync Engine

Custom Memo Support for Items
Typically, payment memos on bills, checks and credit card charges are populated with Item Description, a field that is synced between Tallie and your accounting or bill pay system. However, we’ve received many requests to be able to customize the memo based on the specific transaction. We now offer customization on both the individual Item and the Export Settings pages. This feature is compatible with every Tallie integration, which includes QuickBooks for Windows, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Bill.com and Intacct.

Tallie Expense Report Software 10.8 Release Notes

With September just around the corner, kids are heading back to school and accounting busy season is upon us. While you were (hopefully) enjoying the summer sunshine, our team worked diligently to deliver Tallie’s latest and greatest in our 10.8 release. This release includes tremendous new user interface improvements such as viewing all expenses in a new Table View, Select All/Deselect All, maximized expense controls, and more. With this update, we are proud to share with you the newest version of Tallie’s expense report software. Take a look:

Toggle between signature Tile View and new Table View

Our much-anticipated “table view” of expenses is live on the Purchases page! Users can now switch between tile view and table view using the toggles in the upper-right corner of the Purchases page. Compared to our signature tile view, the new table view is designed to offer enhanced visibility by displaying all expense details in a spreadsheet-like table. Users may click on the column headers to sort expenses based on the specific item.

Tallie’s new Table View

Tallie’s signature Tile View

Ability to select all/deselect all items on the Purchases page

We replaced “# selected items” with a clickable selection indicator that can be used to select all or deselect all items on the Purchases page.

https://blog.usetallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/tallie-expense-report-software-3.png

Drag & drop area is now full page

To make receipts drag and drop easier, we removed the placeholder tile and expanded the drag & drop area to the whole Purchases page. This applies both when the Purchases page is empty and when expenses are present.

https://blog.usetallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/tallie-expense-report-software-10.png

All expense controls are now available on each expense report

Previously, to create a mileage expense or import credit card transactions and add to an expense report, users must do so on the Purchases page first. In this release, we made all expense controls available on each expense report, including importing credit card transactions, manual entry, and merge. The controls, joined by those that were already available on the Expense Reports page, such as attach receipts, mass edit and delete expense(s), allow users to more efficiently edit and submit their expenses without the need to navigate between different pages.

How do I do this?
To add a new expense or credit card transaction(s) to a report, simply click on an expense control button in the report header to get started. When more than one expense is highlighted, the Add buttons are replaced by the Mass Edit and Delete buttons. Selecting two mergeable expenses will trigger the Merge button to show. To submit the report, deselect all expense items and the report header will revert back to normal.

https://blog.usetallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/tallie-expense-report-software-5.png

Select all/deselect all expenses in an expense report using the Selection Indicator

Similar to what we did on the Purchases page, we replaced the “# Expenses Selected” that used to appear in the report header with a green selection indicator that can be used to select all or deselect all expenses in the expense report.

https://blog.usetallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/tallie-expense-report-software-6.png

Receipt drag and drop area enlarged to the entire report

The receipt drag and drop area is now the whole report instead of just the report header. Users may also drop receipts on the expense report list on the left-hand side. To attach receipt to a specific line item, click the “+” button to the right and the file browser will pop up.

https://blog.usetallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/tallie-expense-report-software-7.png

Additional tabs for the People and Projects lists so all settings can be seen at a glance

In our previous release, we updated the Projects list to include more information, such as expense privileges and start/end dates for projects, as a step to enhance visibility of project settings overall. We’re taking this further by introducing additional tabs on the People and Project list pages, which are “Mappings” and “Permissions and Approvers” (People list only for now). An admin can click on any one of these preferences and be taken to the edit view for that preference directly. Furthermore, clicking on the column header will sort the list based on that specific preference.

https://blog.usetallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/tallie-expense-report-software-8.png

https://blog.usetallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/tallie-expense-report-software-9.png

Default items per page increased to 200

We increased the default items per page from 25 to 200 and admins have the options to show 25 or 100 per page if they prefer.

Sort lists based on ID by default

When managing their books, accounting professionals rely heavily on code numbers. All Manage Lists pages aside from Expense Categories are now sorted based on ID/codes/numbers by default. If no code is present, the list will be sorted based on names.

People & Project Overview tabs removed

With the implementation of a more data-rich list view, the Overview tab becomes redundant and serves no additional purpose, so we went ahead and removed them.

We look forward to hearing how these upgrades have made your expense report software experience even easier! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out to our Product Expert team at support@usetallie.com or by calling 888-874-1118 Ext 2.

Tallie Expense Report Software – 10.7 Release Notes

Our focus at Tallie during the summer of 2015 is enhancing our customer’s’ experience. We’re expanding export options, offering enhanced support for credit card account management, and presenting a newly revised duplicate-detection algorithm! Let’s get into the details:

INTACCT
New export option for Intacct – Expense Reports in Time & Expense module

Users whose Intacct subscription includes the Time & Expense Module can now choose to export reimbursables as Expense Reports to Intacct! To configure this, go to Tallie’s Settings area, click on Integration & Sync > Export Settings > Payment export type is: Expense Reports. An additional drop-down will appear for the admin to select a numbering method for expense reports in Intacct. If Intacct already has auto-numbering setup for the enterprise, it will be inherited here. Otherwise, this will default to Tallie numbering.tallie-expense-report-software-release-1

Similar to other export types, Tallie will also export attachments to Intacct Expense Reports, which can be viewed by clicking the paperclip icon highlighted with an orange box in the screenshot below.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-2

Now syncing Expense Categories with Intacct Expense Types

Expense Categories list is the newest dimension that can be synced with Intacct. Most Intacct organizations that have the Time & Expense module enabled also have Expense Types enabled in their accounts. Intacct Time & Expense uses Expense Types just as Tallie uses Expense Categories – as a way to provide users with a user-friendly manner of mapping expenses to General Ledger Accounts and Items – though some Intacct organizations choose not to use Expense Types. By syncing Tallie Expense Categories to Intacct Expense Types, we ensure seamless transition of expense report data using the same dimensions in Tallie as you use in Intacct. With our activity-based sync, any new Expense Type created here will be synced to Tallie with its expense account readily-mapped. Likewise, an Expense Category created in Tallie will also be reflected as a new Expense Type in Intacct.

Not only does Tallie sync Expense Categories with Expense Types, but Tallie now also supports specification of offset accounts on a per-category basis. With all other integrations, Tallie exports bills, credit card transactions and/or checks to accounting using one standard liability account per export type. However, individual expense types in Intacct can be assigned unique offset accounts that will override that default setting when expense reports are created in Intacct. To honor this setting, Tallie now has the flexibility of assigning custom offset account as well. This setting can be found in the Expense Category edit area. Please note that this is an Intacct Time & Expense-exclusive setting and all expenses exported to Accounts Payable and Cash Management will continue to be offset by your default payable account(s) as configured in Intacct.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-3

Billable expenses can now be exported to Intacct

If you are billing your customers for time & materials, you will want to be marking expenses in Tallie as billable. As with our other integrations, Tallie is now configured for tracking of billable expenses when integrated with Intacct, and is configured to verify that you have met all the requirements for Intacct billable expenses prior to exporting. Intacct’s requirements are as follows:

  • The Expense Category chosen must be mapped to an Item that is of “Non-Inventory” type. Items of Non-Inventory (Sales Only) or Non-Inventory (Purchases Only) types are not valid for billable expenses.
  • The Item used for the Expense Category must be mapped to an Expense Account in Tallie
  • The expense must be mapped to a Customer, either on the expense item itself or by mapping the expense to a Project that is mapped to a Customer in the Project Details tab.

Please note that, due to limitations on the Intacct side, Tallie cannot indicate billable status on transactions exported to the Cash Management module.

CREDIT CARD IMPROVEMENTS

Credit card subaccount addition/subtraction functionality

As before, once a credit card connection has been made to a bank, the user will be presented with a list of cards accessible by the account. Now, the user can select which of these cards they would like to bring into Tallie. After the initial connection, the user can click the “Add more cards from this account” icon in the credit card profile to connect more cards from the account. Any individual card can be removed from Tallie by clicking the new trash can icon on that card’s line.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-4

tallie-expense-report-software-release-5

Let the Add Card flow run in the background

While in the process of connecting to their bank, users now have the ability to close out the lightbox and return to the Add a Credit Card flow at a later time without losing their spot. Simply click the X in the upper-right corner of the lightbox and the flow will be continue in the background, allowing you to use other features in Tallie while you’re waiting. When you are ready to select the cards to bring into Tallie, click “Finish Setup” to pick up where you left off.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-6

Users can specify Statement Start Date for manually created credit card profiles

With this feature, Tallie can auto-bundle expense reports for manually uploaded transactions based on the statement start date on the card profile. Note that this behaves the same as direct-feed banks – auto-bundling is for non-reimbursable transactions and does not apply retroactively to existing reports.

Tallie will import credits & refunds by default, but omit payments from auto-import

Previously, Tallie excluded all negative transactions from auto-import and users chose to manually import the ones they need. In this release, our auto-import feature is enhanced with the ability to differentiate between vendor credits/refunds and credit card payments/interests, allowing the latter transactions to be accurately identified and omitted from auto-import.

Users can map any manually created expense or receipt photo expense to a corporate credit card, for later credit card transaction reconciliation

In this release, we implemented the ability to associate an expense with a corporate credit card without the expense being sourced from a direct credit card feed or manual upload. Not only will this feature help improve auto-matching between receipts/manual expenses with credit card transactions, but it will allow users to track and submit non-reimbursable expense items even if they are having problems with the bank feed.

To manually map an expense to a corporate credit card, simply select a the card in the expense create/edit lightbox. This feature is also available through Mass Edit, when you select more than one expense and use the pencil icon to edit more than one expense at a time.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-7

Any transactions that are manually mapped to a corporate card will show an orange credit card icon, which is clickable and will display a message to inform the user that this is a mapped expense that can be merged with a true credit card transaction from either direct feed or manual upload. If the admin prefers, he/she may export mapped NR transactions to accounting without reconciliation.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-8

Show original transaction description in manual import and expense edit lightboxes

Occasionally, our credit card data feed cleanup oversimplifies the merchant for a credit card line item. Prior to this release, the full merchant record was only available after importing a transaction. Now, this functionality has been made available to each row of the CC import lightbox, which shows the merchant line data on hover over the credit card icon, and the expense edit window, which displays the full original transaction description on hover over the snippet.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-9

tallie-expense-report-software-release-10

PRODUCT ENHANCEMENTS

Duplicate Detection now learns exclusions from exported data

In addition to identifying expenses as potential duplicates based on their merchants, dates, and amounts, our duplicate detection algorithm is now enhanced with the ability to learn from exported data. This should reduce the rate of false positives and continue to enhance the accuracy of the duplicate detection algorithm.

Ability to hide top-level projects from users

Some accounting systems, like QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop, use one list for Customers and the Jobs associated with those customers which we support in our Projects list, while other accounting systems, like Intacct, use separate lists which we support with our Customers and Projects lists. With our last major release, we allowed the configuration of expense items on a list basis, enabling admins to turn on expense tracking by projects, customers and other lists. In order to better support QuickBooks and other accounting systems, we now offer a configuration for the Projects list which will disable the top-level of projects on a projects lists, effectively turning off Customers tracking.

When Project tracking is enabled in Company Preferences > Features area, admins can choose to hide all parent-level projects for users. This will override Project People settings, meaning, with this box checked, users won’t be able to select the top-level project they’re assigned to.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-11

EXPORT IMPROVEMENTS

Ability to export to “Other Asset” accounts in QuickBooks

For each accounting system, certain restrictions are in place for export on the basis of the GL account associated with the expense category. For QuickBooks Desktop, the QuickBooks product does not allow customer/job or billable mapping on expenses mapped to GL accounts of “Other Asset” type. Because of this limitation, Tallie previously prevented mapping & export to “Other Asset” types.

We now support exporting checks, bills, and corporate card charges to type “Other Asset” accounts in QuickBooks Desktop. We have also introduced validation on export to ensure conformity with QuickBooks Desktop limitations and, if a project is mapped to a line item or the line item is flagged as billable, and appropriate error will be displayed to the user.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-12

Export high quality receipt images to Bill.com

In this release, we upgraded the receipt image quality in the PDF reports attached to Bill.com exports from viewable quality to high quality. In extreme cases where there are hundreds of receipts in one report, the image quality will switch to viewable to comply with Bill.com’s file size limitation.

UI UPDATES

More data-rich Projects list view offers shortcuts to editing a Project

The Projects list view now contains Project number, expense privileges and start/stop dates for projects, enhancing visibility of project settings overall. Additionally, an admin may click on any one of these preferences and be taken to the edit view for that preference directly.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-13

More visibility for accounting codes across Tallie

When “Display System Code” from the connected accounting system is configured on Settings Home page, the system codes for Vendors, Class, Departments, and Locations, etc. will also appear in mapping drop-downs in the Settings area. This will help admins make selections by typing in just a code number in order to select an option from a full list.

tallie-expense-report-software-release-14

9.19 Release Notes: Improved Credit Card Flow, Custom Expense Export Options, & More

We’ve done it again. Talie’s 9.19 release notes introduce new features, enhances existing ones, and delivers new training resources available 24/7. We simplified the “Add a Credit Card” process, improved Custom Export options, added a new Auto-Split feature, amplified account security via a new password strength meter, and built a new training center called the Tallie Resource Room. Take a look:

I. Simplified Credit Card Page

Tallie’s Credit Card page is now better than ever before. You can now search credit cards by URL and bank name, and manual credit card profile setup is streamlined to one simple screen. Check out the screenshots below for step-by-step process:

Step 1: To add any card, click “Add a Credit Card.” Then you can find, search, and select your bank.

Step 3: Review all imported credit cards before you finish.

tallie-expense-report-credit-card-4

II. Improved Custom Export Options

Tallie’s custom expense export file now includes a number of new fields and supports simultaneous export of two different files – one for reimbursable expenses and one for non-reimbursable expenses. Additionally, you can now concatenate different values into the same field.

For Intacct/Bill.com users, Credit Card charges can now be directly imported into Intacct via CSV upload, giving you greater control over your non-reimbursables.

III. New Feature: Auto-Split

Now, under very specific parameters, expenses can be evenly split amongst a select group of projects.

Process Overview

  1. Create a transaction
  2. Click Itemize
  3. Create an individual item for each project and enter $0 for the amount in each item
  4. Save
  5. Review the itemizations, and you should see them split up evenly (e.g. 3 itemizations = $25 each).

For more information on how this new feature works, read this Auto-Split Tips & Tricks article in the Tallie Support Center.

IV. Enhanced Bill.com Integration for Intacct & NetSuite Clients

We’ve expanded and enhanced our integration capabilities for clients using either Intacct or Netsuite along with Bill.com. In addition to Classes, Intacct and Netsuite clients can now sync Department and Location lists from Bill.com into Tallie. V. New Password Strength Requirements

In an effort to further advance the security of your critical data, we have introduced a password strength meter. This adds greater security for company data and prevents users from creating passwords that are easily hackable.

The new password strength meter applies only to new passwords. Passwords are ranked on a scale of poor, weak, fair, good and strong. For now, a password will be accepted with a weak status and above; passwords with a poor status are not accepted. If you would like your employees to be using more secure passwords, you must ask them to create new passwords independently.

TALLIE TIP: The Tallie password strength meter is based on the difficulty of a computer to create your password. The strongest passwords are easy for a human to remember and hard for a computer to guess. Try stringing together a few random words, rather than simply substituting numbers or symbols for letters.

Expense Management Feature Highlight: Manual Credit Card Upload

To automatically import your transactions, Tallie is built to directly connect with 500+ credit card brands – and that number continues to grow. We constantly strive to keep pace with the rapidly expanding credit card industry, though acknowledge that our customers may have credit cards that we don’t yet directly connect with. Because of this, we’ve recently launched a new Manually Add Account feature to enable credit card transaction file uploading. It’s a feature so highly requested, we felt compelled to create an intuitive user experience that streamlines the upload process, even if our direct connection is currently unavailable.

You may wonder how a transaction file upload feature could be an intuitive feature. It’s a simple upload function, right? Wrong! Tallie is the only expense management software product to offer this type of upload. We listened to our users’ requests and challenged our engineering and design teams to understand the “why” behind it all. The result was powerful.

Tallie chose to create a new way of connecting, storing, and remembering your credit card preferences. We know that most businesses are not expensing random charges from a variety of cards; most companies routinely use a calculated, purposeful process for handling credit card expenses. We believe that whether a company imports credit cards via direct integration or a manual file import, the opportunity to always reference charges to cards should always be available.

Now, in Tallie, you can create and store a credit card profile for both your directly integrated credit cards and those credit cards that require manual file transaction upload.

Manually Upload Your Credit Card Statement Data in 5 Easy Steps

Step 3: A box will pop up, asking you to enter your bank. If your bank account isn’t listed, select “Other Issuing Bank”tallie-credit-card-upload-expense-management-software

Step 4: Now, you’ll be prompted to enter a name for the account. Select whether the charges from the account are reimbursable or non-reimbursable, and which in currency the transactions exist.

Step 5: After entering your information, Tallie will ask if everything looks alright to you, and whether or not the transactions are purchases. Next, a success window will appear. Simply drag and drop your charges into the window. After it processes, select the transactions you’d like to appear as Purchases and click “Import.” That’s it – you’re done!

Tallie’s 9.14 Expense Management Release News!

Tallie’s 9.14 release features exciting updates that will make the expense management process that much easier. Read up on the greatest highlights in this round of Tallie’s business software updates.

1. A Redesigned Lightbox

Our Development Team built a flurry of new features to enhance the Purchases page in Tallie. One of the most notable updates includes a redesigned lightbox (see below) for added context and control when navigating the Purchases page.

Tallie-purchases-business-software

In this redesigned lightbox, Tallie users can perform the following functions at the click of an icon:

  • Detach receipts into separate expenses (existing feature)

  • Add receipts onto an expense by clicking the paperclip icon (existing feature)

  • Add multiple receipts by dragging the additions onto an existing receipt image. (new 9.14 feature)

These three updates provide increased ease of control over expense reimbursement, resulting in maximized flexibility for your company’s accounting workflow.

2. Tack on Multiple Receipts

Tallie users can now add multiple receipts – such as those mile long hotel receipts – to the same expense, including the lengthy ones. Simply add additional pictures to the same expense and you’re done.

Developer note: Merging two duplicate purchases with different receipt images will result in both being kept. This ensures that all data is kept and Tallie is not deleting or hiding any receipts that the user may want to keep. Users can manually remove or delete extra receipts if desired.

3. View Multiple Pages of PDFs

Great news – prior to the 9.14 release, users could only view the first page of a PDF receipt. Now, Tallie shows all pages of an uploaded multi-page PDF, adding further control and visibility to your accounting workflow.

4. Added Bill.com Support for Corporate Credit Card Charges

One of the most requested enhancements in Tallie’s 9.14 release is the new settings and functionality for Tallie’s Bill.com integration. Users will now be able to import Non-Reimbursable Credit Card charges into Bill.com. A number of new features were introduced to accomplish this task:

  • “Combine Multiple Charges into one Bill.” If selected, Credit Card charges will export into Bill.com as one bill. When you export an expense report with ten Credit Card charges, you’ll get one bill with each charge as a line item.

  • “Export Each Charge as a Separate Bill”  With this set, each Credit Card charge will appear as a separate bill. In other words, if you export an expense report with ten Credit Card charges, you’ll see ten new bills in Bill.com.

  • “Mark Bills as Paid” Unless otherwise preferred, each bill that’s imported into Bill.com will be imported as “Paid” via the credit card account you assign in Tallie. This will save clients tremendous amounts of time prepping the imported charges for export out to the accounting system.

These exciting new features uphold Tallie’s commitment to carving the path of what defines a premier expense management product. Pair this commitment with deep integration with QuickBooks, Bill.com, and SmartVault, and the solution is clear. Along with our other industry partners, — RootWorks, Right Networks, and BMRG — Tallie’s business software completes a powerful paperless and highly efficient client accounting ecosystem. We hope you find these updates to be helpful. Enjoy!
